Bush: Iraq Withdrawal Would Weaken U.S.
DONNELLY, Idaho -President Bush took on the California mother who has been defiantly protesting outside his Texas home, saying Tuesday that Cindy Sheehan doesn't represent the views of most military families and that fulfilling demands like hers for withdrawal from
Iraq would weaken the United States.
Bush said he understood the anguish of the woman whose son was killed in Iraq last year. But he said he disagreed with her assertion that U.S. troops should be brought home before more die in a "senseless war."

| I'm sure our president knows all about anguish. This guy has been pampered since birth and hasn't had a real job in his life, let alone lost a child. I think his handlers/trainers have messed up big by blowing Sheehan off. A picture of him holding a grieving mother would have gotten a lot more mileage than another shot of that stupid look on his face and his pretty blue jacket. |

Hey look, a thread with vitriolic leftists! Color me shocked.

Considering that's an A.P. photo, the stupidity of this comment is mind-boggling. |

| What does "took her on " mean? Did he actually face her and offer his sincere condolences? Or did he just pull off a little speach in the back-yard along with the rest of the menure? |

I may make bitter comments, but at least I know what vitriolic means. Which is more than you can say for the man you are defending. But, of course the AP and I are part of a leftist conspiracy to make Bush look stupid. Evidently your mind is boggled. |

I read that he did meet with her along with other grieving families. Can you believe he tried to add some levity to the meeting with this woman who just lost her son by addressing her as "mom"? Smooth move. No wonder she got fired up after that. |

| Anyhow, at the moment, the US doesn't seem to have too many choices. Iraqi Kurds, Shias, and Sunnis are going to be in more conflicts over the issue of federalism in the long run. Each group has its own militia. |

He's already met with her once. She's not entitled to any more special meetings. There are other family members that Bush hasn't met with before.

I know what vitriolic means as well, which was why I utilized it for the comments made in this thread. That being said, the man I'm defending graduated from Harvard, which well, is more than you'll ever be able to say isn't it?
That being said, you apparently failed to grasp that your original assertion that Bush's people are responsible for using that picture is ludicrous. In case you missed the First Amendment, we have freedom of the press. If Bush's people were responsible for distributing and controlling photos of the President, you probably would see his private meetings with the family members of fallen soldiers.
The A.P. publishes whatever it chooses to publish.
You have any other absurd comments or are you all spent for today? |

Hobbie,
Maybe you misunderstood what I typed? I was referring to the circumstances in which the photo was taken (by himself, not with Sheehan). You have to admit that almost all his appearances are scripted, as in Idaho yesterday. I thought that his actions (inaction) with Sheehan could have been handled better, which was what this thread was about.
I would be happy to continue to debate this issue with you, but I won't waste my time trading insults. You obviously have issues. |
