Rest in peace David Lange: mental giant, humanist, wit, revolutionary.

He survived the political turmoil of his first few months in office, and then navigated his country through the difficult times following the sinking of the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior in Auckland harbour by agents of the French government.
The nuclear ban proved highly controversial. In 1985, at a press conference, Mr Lange was asked if he believed Washington would try and pull the rug out from under him.
Probably not, he said but “They might polish the lino a bit harder and hope that I execute a rather unseemly glide across it.”

| Although to be honest i haven't heard much about him till his death, all i've heard both before and since leads me to believe he was truly a great man and a politician. My condolences go to his family, i'm sure he will be sorely missed. |
