I am an independent and a moderate. I feel the left has done nothing but move further left and the right has moved further right. Florida has a closed primary system, so I must join a party to have a say in who runs. After looking at ALL parties, not just the main two, I decided I easily have most in common with the republican party. The libertarian have become too anarchic for my tastes, I dont think I like anything about the greens cept a couple of their positions, the democrats would probly lynch me since iv voted for Bush twice (once for jeb, once for george).
However, as I said I am a moderate. My goal in joining the republican party is to try to bring it back to the center on issues like abortion (No late term abortion, only in the first two months can you get an abortion unless there is extreme danger to the mother). I am a moderate on several other issues, and my views on most of them are similiar to Sen McCains'.
However, Iv seen here and elsewhere alot of hate directed at McCain and other moderates for not being conservative enough. My question is, what can I expect from the party, joining as a moderate, in the hopes of changing it? |

| well get in line then. the fact of the matter is the party itself is a product of struggle between factions and groups with other motives. |

| daxuesheng, I would recomment you get to know the Constitution party. They are fairly conservative on some views, and not as conservative on others, yet are mainly conservative. |

| Did you not read what he wrote? He said he wanted to choose a party who has a say in who runs. Neither the Liberaterian or Constitution Party can do this. Only the Republicans and Democrats can. And right now the Republican Party is the only party that matters. |

Voting is a collective act of self-delusion. Do you think your vote, for whomever it may be, has an effect of granting liberty to anyone? The ironic aspect of this situation is that, although we don't own one another, we are at each other's mercy. Those that like the fascist/socialist doctrines are unnecessary members of the human race. |
