Well, telling children to "shut the hell up" in an angry manner doesn't seem like a good way to me. If I ever had a child, the most important thing for me would be to keep my cool when dealing with my child. I don't see the need for getting angry ...

I see you and raise it to the following . . .which has kept me from following in my parents footsteps. . .

If a child can make me angry, I must not be an adult, and shouldn't be a parent if I can't be an adult. I disciplined but rarely got angry. Even swats were a choice, the kids could get swats and get it over with, (only woman swats which rotate from the elbow, not man swats which rotate at the shoulder and are much stronger thereby) OR they could stay in room restriction (no tv or stereos or anything like that in the bedrooms, a bed and a dresser). My daughter usually chose swats, my son chose the room.

But either way, I always had to keep reminding myself that their misbehaviours were normal parts of growing and learning, and NOT a personal affront to me. I think this is where most parents start loosing it. It really isn't and shouldn't ever be taken personally, even if they say something personal like "I hate you." I always just answered, "that's normal, I hate me sometimes too, and you hate you sometimes. Check in with me later if it doesn't go away."

Got kids? Didn't think so. Why not be honest with yourself and admit you don't know the first thing about parenting?

the truth is, physical disipline doesnt work well, sociologically speaking. that is to say, in some cases the kid will turn out alright, but he is more likely to be violent himself, more likely to beat his wife, and more likely to be imprisoned for a violent crime. frankly, i dont think it works well either. ive only been hit a couple of times by my parents, and it was all when i was pretty young. i never cared 5 minutes after it was done. their typical punishment for me was to ground me to my room, for as much as a week. they would take out any books, tv, stereo, ect. i was allowed a bed and a bible, and my meanls were served on a tray in my room. i could go to the bathroom next to my room whenever i wanted, other than that, i had to sit in there. i got that for a week two times, and never got in serious trouble again.

Do you have kids? In my opinion, beating a child is one of the most despicable things you can do.
