Note: I'm just posting for contrast here, not to be critical:
Valdimar wrote: Being 'obviously' gay is living and acting out of the social contruct of gender roles. According to most, I'm in the middle ground as for being determined to be gay and not heterosexual. I'll list the following examples:
-I care about my hair. I use product to make it look nice and make sure it's styled to my likings several times a day. I also frost my bangs once a month and cut my hair at least every other week.
I don't put product in my hair. I keep it short enough that I can usually get by with running a brush through it after I shower and then maybe again later if I've been out in the wind.
I usually go a couple of months between haircuts and I've never altered the color - even though it's now turning white.
Quote: -My navel is pierced.
I have no piercings whatsoever.
Quote: -I work out and maintain a proper diet to look good, not to be healthy.
We recently bought a treadmill, which I try to use daily, but I can't do more than about 20 minutes, partly because I'm too out of shape and partly because I have a form of asthma exacerbated by physical exertion. I'm not exercising to look good - I'm doing it because I want to build up some stamina for when I have to be on my feet for long periods of time and because the doctor keeps telling me to lose some weight to help control my acid reflux and because of the history of diabetes on both sides of my family.
I know - too much information. Just illustrating that for me it's definitely a health thing.
Quote: -I never check girls out nor am I responsive to girls that are obviously flirting with me.
Neither do I, though thanks to my age and deteriorating physique I don't have to worry much about them flirting with me anymore. Of course, I don't get many guys flirting either, but that's fine - I'm spoken for and happy about it.
Quote: -90% of the time, I exhibit masculine mannerisms. Every now and then, you will catch me crossing my legs, flailing my arms, snapping my fingers, or smacking my lips.
I'd rate myself as slightly more feminine than masculine - not extremely so.
Quote: -When appropriate, I wear trendy, revealing clothes which include short, tight shirts that I buy out of the boys section and hip hugging slacks or jeans that are a size or two too small for me.
I never was trendy or fashionable. I wear whatever is inexpensive and at least somewhat fits.
Quote: Some won't want to be seen with me in public in my "moments", others don't give a crap. Those that are uncomfortable with the above mentioned examples would deem me a flaming homo, some will view me as in the middle that has my moments, while others will consider me mild to "straight-acting".
My moments have more to do with my temper than exhibiting other characteristics. Fortunately I'm not the violent type - I just talk really fast and with a great deal of emphasis when I get mad.
Quote: I am who I am. I don't really like to label myself, but if it makes you feel better to label me, than more power to you. I mean, straight to me means "straight to bed" since I don't like to view myself as crooked.
I agree, labels suck. The fact that I can't walk 'straight' has more to do with physical problems unrelated to my homosexuality. I'm a mess, but at least I know who I am and what I want from life. Can't say the same for a lot of the straight people I know. |

How 'obvious' do you think your sexual orientation is to other people who don't already know you?
What words would you use to describe how you think you appear to others?
On that note I will. I think it's pretty obvious that I'm straight when people see me. I don't dress "gay" or even metrosexual for that matter. I have a couple metro shirts, but that's the extent of it. I saw that word once before, what the hell is metro?? |

| I guess I am a fairly obvious heterosexual. I have had two attempts by gay guys who have hit on me. One I didn't know it at the time. I was told by a bartender later on.The other I knew because the guy was telling me that everyone is gay blah blah blah. He figured with enough drinks he would get me. 8 drinks later he is getting sloppy and beligerent and I was looking for a game of quarters. (yeah, I used to drink a lot and had a wicked tolerance.) I don't try to do anything that makes me look or act straight. |

| Pretty much everyone who hasn't asked thinks I'm gay, though I have no idea of why they'd think that. |

Metrosexuals are heterosexual men who are into "gay culture", or whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. Basically, straight men who do their hair, get manicures and pedicures, are into fashion, are generally very neat, and all that stereotypical gay stuff that most homosexuals don't even follow themselves. |

The description of the second guy kinda reminds me of a lot of straight men I've known and their behavior toward what they view as 'available' women.
My point being that there are plenty of idiots in the worlds, gay and straight. |
