| Looking back into history, many Japanese leaders have made their commitments to the one-China policy, including former Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Murayama, Ryutaro Hashimoto and Keizo Obuchi. Japan should take actions, instead of only paying lip service, to keep its promise of not supporting "Taiwan independence." |

because Japan formally recognizes China and Taiwan as one and the same and broke diplomatic ties with Taiwan only to establish it with China. |
