When I get my degree, perhaps I'll move back to China.
It's easy to be a Sinophile in the the US Lag, trust me I've been there. Hell there was even a time when I thought that Taiwan should become part of China. But once you live here and you see the corruption, exploitation, racsim, and general barbarity that defines the current Beijing regime(not the Chinese people or culture) you'll see how wrong things really are here....it tends to change opinions.
Eynon81, from what you said it tells me that you are of Chinese desent, have lived in China, but is now back in the U.S.? Am I correct in these assumptions? Reason I'm asking is because I am 1st gen Chinese American coming from Hong Kong. I have always been curious about what life would be like if my parents hadn't made the jump into the western world. Based only on what I've seen & heard about communism it definitely seems like a better bet to stay in America, despite its shortcomings.
Nope, I'm of Welsh-Scandanavian decent and currently live in China....but I'm flattered you think I'm Chinese  |

I'm Chinese. I've lived in China for five years, not including summer and winter vacations. True, there is corruption; for example, my cousin got into her college through a back door. True, there is some barbarity; I've heard taxi drivers talk about others drivers getting beat up by police for not paying fines. But the situation is improving. The economic barriers are being lifted, and you can probably see it already; cars, once a priceless sign of extreme wealth, are becoming more and more common. As for your comment on racism--again, I'm Chinese, and I speak fluent Mandarin, as well as the Jinan dialect, so it doesn't apply to me (I don't see many foreigners in China, either).
yeah ok the racism charge was a bit harsh, but I've noticed that the Chinese are not that excepting of diversity(more then race). And yeah, thing(at least economic) are getting better, but in terms of corruption, personal freedom, ect...China still has a way to go.....I gotta run, but later I'll start a good china thread...one that doesn't talk about taiwan bs or yanky conspiracy theories  |

Hmmm, looking at your Avatar I wouldn't have thought u were chinese. But all that talk about having been a Sinophile threw me off. Since you've been living in China, do you plan to return to U.S. or the country of your descent? |

When I saw China called barbaric I had to chuckle. Quite often the U.S.A. is considered barbaric. I don't consider that to be a bad thing though, after all as barbaric as the U.S. is it has done quite well for itself.
Frankly I don't know what to make of this. China is warming up to western ideas. Many political prisoners, who were sentenced for life, have been released recently. They are a very conservative country, so if they do break away from communism it will take a long time.
The U.S. has been getting quite friendly with China too. Why not? China is starting to realize just how smart it is to invest in the largest market in the world, and people usually advocate peaceful solutions for developing nations. They are also quite responsible in my opinion. I'm fairly certain N.Korea would have launched nukes by now if it wasn't for China telling it's little brother not too.
What also complicates the whole thing is that the situation is not-unlike the American civil war. That didn't turn out too bad, and even if China took Taiwan by force it could turn out just as well. It really depends entirely on the manor in which China acts on this one. |

| The American Civil War never threatened us with WW3 did it? I think China is softening BUT occasionally it has to play things up. Taiwan, Japan or whatever. To keep peoples attentions from the fact that the divide between rich and poor is widening ever more rapidly. |

All of these things and much worse happen here in America. Now, I wouldn't move to China for any amount of money, but as all of you know, the United States is not all peaches-and-cream.

What a joke. True, many countries are far more oppressive than the U.S. (particularly China, from what I gather), but to say we are truly free is a complete farce. Despite what they tell you, we cannot say anything we want to here in the United States. Open your eyes. A truly free country would not have a class system at all. A country that is truly free could not go around tapping phones willy-nilly as is presently possible in the U.S.
I will do everything in my power to guarantee that the world is more free for my son and daughter when they're my age. They will not be brainwashed into ignoring the injustice and oppression in the United States (or anywhere else in the world).
Maybe you should move to China. Class system bullsh*t! I lived in Japan most of my life. There is a class sytem there worse than your so called class system in the US. The US is the freest country in the world in comparison to Japan, China, Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, etc. Im half Japanese and half Chinese, and suffered some discrimination at the hands of the full blood Japanese. At least in america I dont have to put up with this bs. Except from the america haters in this country |
