In another effort to deliberately exclude South Africa's white minority, president Thabo Mbeki is trying to change the name of South Africa's capital city, Pretoria, to Tshwane, in an effort to eradicate all traces of Afrikaaner heritage. Why not just change Johannesberg to "Ihatealldamncrackersberg" and Cape Town to "F*ckthewhiteys Town"?? It seems one racist regime has simply been replaced by another down there, and the new regime isn't much better at all. With crises plaguing the country like crime, AIDS, unemployment, and poverty, you'd think that changing the name of the capital city to try and piss off the Afrikaaners wouldn't be much of a priority. Racist bastard.

Well Zimbabwe is so crappy now it doesn't matter. But South Africa still has some life left in it, and I don't want to see it plunge down the same hole as the rest of Africa. And by trying to eradicate the entire Afrikaaner history, Mbeki is no better than the apartheid government before him. Why oh why did Mandela choose to step down???! Would you care if someone renamed your city in an effort to try and get rid of your culture and heritage?? I think you would.

What you say is true, Mbeki has proved to be a less than great leader of South Africa and that has been shown in his weakness to condemn people like Mugabe.

My partner is a mixed-race South African and people like her and the whites are treated as if they are under a new Apartheid regime, almost like two wrongs make a right.

Unfortunately, the renaming of Pretoria as Tshwane, doesnt stop there following some biased Geographical Names Committee, obviously not interested in Truth and Reconcillaition, which wishes to rename virtually all of the Afrikaaner town and cityships inlcuding Durban, George and East London - they don't like the fact that the Dutch, Boer and Afrikaaner elements of history exist in the nation's fabric.

I feel the real problem is the ANC itself. The Black poor back relentlessly because of its struggle against Aparthied but when you have a party that consists of Communists and Free Marketeers with Liberals, something says it has become a One Party state. The New National Party (the successor of the pro-Apartheid National Party) has merged with ANC leaving only the Democratic Alliance and Inkartha. Until the dynamics of the parties change, the conversion to African revisionism will gather pace

SA does need a more powerful opposition, and one that is not based on race, but on political ideals. This party's stance could be to be, above all, committed to fighting crime and AIDS (as well as helping alleviate poverty and unemployment), not to destroy Afrikaaner heritage and be racist. Why does Mbeki and his cronies want South Africa to simply look like the rest of Africa, and destroy whatever uniqueness the nation has?? Mbeki is much more like Mugabe than Mandela.

Yeah I suppose. The trouble is the ANC has no viable opposition, and unless Nelson Mandela himself comes out and says 'for god's sake somebody stop this man' Mbeki will probably continue to Zimbabwify South Africa.......

Dammit, I seriously hope someone steps up in South Africa and puts a stop to Mbeki's anti-white anti-prosperity anti-stopping crime anti-stopping AIDS tirade. Someone shoot him or something.

so what. First of all, Africa happens to be a place with majority black people. If Africans conquered Germany and named it Mozambique, I would not be pissed if the Germans took it back, they named it Germany again. Im sorry, but every country is not as culturlly accepting as the west nor should it be. It is the beauty of the world to have some places that have a strong cultural identity and places like America and Europe where all races are suppossedly created equal.

I dont see the big deal. It is an African, wanting to change and African capital, back to an African name. Go complain about other things because this name-change in capital seems to be justified.

Well the USA is not majority black, but there's streets named after Martin Luther King Jr. all over the place. Why can't Mbeki and his black supremacist cronies accept that South Africa is a land of many different people and races, not all of them black. He should stop trying to make South Africa exactly like the rest of Africa in every way, because that would be dragging SA backwards instead of foreward. What's next, him purposely starting tribal-based genocide, and giving everyone dirty drinking water and make the whole population starve, simply on the basis of making SA more "African"??? Why can't Mbeki stop viewing the whites as invaders and colonialists, and start viewing them as his fellow countrymen.
