Despite all the worries that North Korea and Iran having nuclear weapons. Shouldn't the most serious threat come from China, whose nuclear arsenal is already in place and aimed at Taiwan? The ties between the island and the mainland reached an apex when the current president of the island was elected in 2000. The United States has already pledge to defend the island from chinese aggression at all costs, however that would presumably lead us to a nuclear exchange between the Chinese and the Americans. While Russia's Nuclear Arsenal is uncharted, the Chinese government would have easy access to such nuclear material to make more nuclear weapons should they ever run short. Therefore, shouldn't we concentrate more on the fastest growing economic and nuclear power in the world, China?

Unfortunately China, unlike Afghanistan and Iraq, already has a lot of nukes and millions of men under arms, not to menition a large and well equiped airforce.........

Accually I think the greatest nuclear threat is America, whether they fire them or push people to the point where they fire them.

The thing that is bugging me, is the idea of a 'mininuke' for use in conventional style warefare against deep bunkers. I would rather someone stayed in their bunker, than go digging for them with fission weapons.

Among the three countries, China is the one that posses the most powerful industrail complex, labour force, armed forces and nuclear capability. China has the power to mass produce nuclear weapons and as a result rise to become a new superpower.
North Korea and Iraq might have a nuclear arsenal, but do they have the required military power to support thier moves? If they use it in a strategic way would'nt they risk total destruction when they face American retaliation?

China is the real threat here. North Korea couldn't fire a nuke and hit The U.S. And even if they did say, nuke Honolulu, what would happen? We'd go into North Korea, take their country, give them "freedom", and then declare "mission accomplished"? If we took north Korea, we'd have a better time dealing with China.

Of course if someone would consider my proposal, we wouldn't need to worry about a nuke entering the U.S.

North Korea "claims" that they can fire a nuclear missle all the way up to the western coast of the United States. However, their number of missles are limited. the only threat we have coming from North Korea is if they make a pact with China... then it would be capable of challenging the United States in Asia and possibly the world, militarily.

Meanwhile China clearly has ICBMs with the capability to hit any US cities at anytime any place. China has also one of the largest standing army, well equiped air force and sea power. Also, China publicly announced that they are building more nuclear weapons. With the end of the arms embargo on them, the technological edge that the western world has over china will dwindle down and one day China might even overtake the western world in military technology, a very scary thought...

China certainly has the capability to over take the whole western worl in military technology. The sheer numbers of her population provides a limitless sea of talents willing to give their talenst to the military.

"usable" mininukes are complete lunacy, that`s just another door that should be kept sealed. A nuke is never usable.

"North Korea couldn't fire a nuke and hit The U.S."

but they could pack a bomb into a ship put it under a bunch of fish drive it up to LA and boom, of corse then what would happen to them eather the US would crush them in a couple of months or even weeks or bush would blame it on a terroist in some middle east country and we'd be right back at Iraq

I don't see thier motivation for doing that. They're only problem with us is we won't leave them well enough alone. A good idea in my book, NK is not the threat we should be focusing on; Mostly because they are not a threat.

They don't have any good motive, i was just pointing out that Korea could attack the US and that several hundred miles of pacific ocean does not necessarily makes us safe.

Russia has several thousand nuclear weapons, and half of them unaccounted for to boot. If it's a nuke in the back of a ship you are worried about, there's the threat, not N. Korea. There is no good reason to invade N. Korea, they are not a threat. Let the mad man rant, he'll die soon enough.

I never said that they were any real threat but haisthater said that they couldn't hit us I'd be an idiot not to think Korea was more of a threat than Russia. Besides we were talking about Korea and China, Russia hasn't even been mentioned.

I was making the point that if we were to invade N. Korea for that reason, perhaps we should to invade Russia. It's not a bomb in the back of a ship that we should be worried about from N. Korea, cuz that's not going to happen. To restate his point, "They can't hit us"

I put China on the same level as India. Both have nukes. Similar populations, except the Chinese might be more nationalistic( I dont know). India has a better air force while China has a better Army. Ofcourse with US help and advanced technology, Im sure India could beat China.

Well anyways, i agree Russia is a bigger threat then N. Korea, speaking of Russia has anyone else heard that they have as many or more spy's in the US than during the cold war. I read that in time magazine and wasn't sure if it was true.
