King sacks Nepal government

King Gyanendra last night dismissed Nepal's Government and declared a state of emergency, taking control of the Himalayan kingdom for the second time in three years.
He denied his takeover was a coup, although soldiers surrounded the houses of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and other Government leaders. |

Indeed, the Nepalese Maoists have denied what happened in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge and often use tactics used by the Shining Path and have great admiration for Sendero as well. That is not to say that I agree with the absolute monarchy with the power to dissolve the parliment at will or the tyrant that is King Gyanendra. However we should also realize that the Maoists are very dangerous as well. |
