Canada rocks, I think some of your question for why is American censorship so alternate from our own steams from the fact that In America, religious institutes and groups hold more power. The Religious Right(and left) have much more of a voice, and they protest what they see on TV much more.

Wasn't Sponge Bob square pants accused of promoting an "alternative life style".

Canadians are ether less religious, or worry less about asserting their religious values on the masses. But I'm not trying to generalize, there probably are exceptions

as for HBO being banned, I'm pretty sure its not. I want to see documented proof of this before I believe its banned.

Also, i find that the American and Canadian perception of left and right wing are slightly different. Americans are more right wing in basis so their view of left wing covers more ground then ours. Example, Liberals are left wing to them. In Canada the federal Liberal party is centrist at best, and the British Columbia Liberal party has many right wing policies.

Crazy Canuck, I think you bring up some good points about immigrants and our differing styles of integration. Canada mostly uses a culture Mosaic approach in which immigrants of Canada pertain their cultural history. And it shows, In B.C. we have many cultures from all around the world blended in and I think it makes us better. I think I heard that 1/4 British Colombians don't speak English At home.

About HBO, I think it was available when I was younger BEFORE there were Canadian alternatives. Once those alternatives became available it may have been forced out to permit Canadian content.

I believe that the whole cultural mosaic approach is what has made us less prone to censorship. The simple fact is that in urban centers like Vancouver you live in an environment where many different cultures and views exist harmoniously. This I believe, makes us more open minded and less likely to want to ban things simply because they dont fit with our own views.

Well I live in Sooke, A small town out side of Victoria. We have lots of foreign echange students from Hong Kong, China, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Argiantina, Britian. Its good for people to get use and know other people from around the world, because that was it will incite less intolarance.

what are your views on the cencorship and cultural mosaic? I think its great. I love to meet people from different places and have disusions with them. I rather a cultural mosiac then a melting pot anyday.

I'm from the mainland so i'm not goign to be THAT different :-)

I totally love the mosaic concept. That people off all races, cultures, and religions could co-exist harmoniously is an amazing thought.

Throughout history mankind has fought amongst itself only because they couldn't get along, couldn't get past simple tribal differences. A multicultural society as envisioned here in Canada does much to correct that sad fact.

Also, by growing up/living in an environment where many different views exist tends to make people less judgemental and open to new ideas. I'd like to think that it makes us mroe reasonable, but that's debateable :-)
