That is rediculous and authoritarian. Theres nothing wrong with canadian content, but do you believe that the government can tell me what I can and cannot watch? As a free person living in a free country I expect to make the choice on my own. It is a direct violation of the Charter of rights and freedoms. |

Wow, they do not censor programming like we do. They censor language like I previously stated. VIA satellite they can get any TV station they want. Why is it that we blocked HBO and let Al`Jazeera (who has terrorist connections) broadcast? I just fail to understand.
As a conservative, i believe in limited government control period. The government has NO business telling me what I can and cannot watch on TV. Language censoring is totally different, we do the same thing and it is to protect minors or those offended by foul language. Can you justify how the CRTC is allowed to get by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms? |

It's nothing to do with bias, it is to do with the principle of freedom. People should be allowed to watch whatever programming, read whatever newspaper or listen to whatever music they please. |

No man that isn't true, Canadian satellite by law cannot show those programs the CRTC has blocked. Shaw Cable and some satellite company lobbied the CRTC to allow fox news, and they won. |

semantics..everyone watches cnn and it is bias. any hard repupblican would disagree because it's bias in there favour.
And Canadian content laws are not about censoreship, they are about showing canadian made broadcasting. |

As I remember Fox news came in as a package with otehr channels that would compete with canadain stations, that is why it failed.
As for HBO, the station is blocked as it would compete with Canadian stations, but HBO programming does make it's way into Canada, just on Canadain stations. |

CNN a right wing media outlet...... hah ah ahahha hoo ho hee ha ahh ahem. Sorry, Ive regained composure. Conservatives down here jokingly (kinda) refer to CNN as the Communist News Network. Fox was launched with the sole objective of being an alternative to the left wing CNN. I'm sure that if you watched more of it you would see there left leaning bias, I don't recommend it though.
To answer the original question as simply as possible. America is a nation of contradictions. Part of being the melting pot we are is that our government and media must walk a fine line that makes as many people happy as possible. I for one know this makes us look strange to the rest of the world but its just the way we are. As Americans we ALL have to pick our battles on a daily basis. Old European countries have roots and traditions dating hundreds of years. Most countries have populations that can more or less agree on what is acceptable and what is not. We don't.
I do think (and of course this is just opinion) that Canada has more of this phenomenon to look forward to in its future. in many ways due to lacks enforcement of immigration laws, Canada has become more of a melting pot then the US. As more and more people flood into your country I predict that groups will become more entrenched in there beliefs and you will see some of the same odd contradictions popping up in your culture. I sure wouldn't mind being wrong though. My wife and I take most of our vacations (holidays, to you) in western Canada. We like your country just the way it is. |

How is CNN left wing?
FOX and CNN both fail to provide more than one perspective to the viewer. And in both cases, it's a pro-governmental view.
I appreciate your compliment about Canada, but I don't get your melting pot analogy. What's going on here is the domestic culture afraid to call Christmas Christmas, while all us immigrants set up or Christmas tress and sing carols. :-)
Also, we can see how successive waves of immigrants have over time joined the domestic culture and indeed added to it. Vancouver alone HAD distinct districts from the previous waves of immigration, IE the Germans, Italians etc. which have now blended to become just Canadian, and now we're starting to see it with the Asian and East Indian waves.
At first they clique, but as generations are born and raised here, they gradually affiliate with Canada first, yet retain there cultural differences like religions, festivals, foods, fashions (to an extent). It makes |
