| I was reading today in the Columbus Dispatch (Ohio) and i found and read an article about South America making their own union styled after the EU. Now i don't know how credible the Dispatch is(they are a big newspaper) but what do you think of this happening? |

i think that what we are witnessing these days is an alignment of people according to the civilizational lines. EU, Latin America, Islamic countries - they all are trying to form a common identity and associate with each other as closely as possible. i think that it is a natural reaction to the end of a gobal conflict - Cold War. i am even somewhat surprised that it did not start earlier in a lot of places. the two big ideologies were fighting each other all over the world for fifty years. most of the countries were aligned with one of those. since the conflict came to an end, there had to be a realignment according to some other set of principles. for the last ten years, i think they have, consciously or unconsciously, searched for those principles and tried to figure out what would work the best for them. now they came to a conclusion that common culutral heritage as well as geographical factors make this regional, civilizational alignment the best choice possible. hopefully these forces will be channeled into global integration and not just regional one. cause if not, we may witness a lot (from 6 to 9) competing and may be warring factions in the world. |

so far America is aligned with itself only. i think that the proper alignment should be with EU, Canada, and may be Japan. it would be nice to include Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, but at the present moment it seems to be unfeasible - there are too many conflictual interest, but we definitely have to work in this direction.
what do you think about all this stuff? |

| I think America definitly needs to build some strong allies and get involved in some sort of Union however i would oppose them joining the EU and would rather them be in a Union with South American countries and Australian countries and use a common currenecy. Inevitably it's going to happen to every country but I think America needs to jumpstart before it falls behind the pack. |

i was not saying that US should join EU. i meant that US and EU should be very close allies and should try to give incentives to Russia to join the alliance with a full commitment. i would also support Australia and NZ as a part of the alliance. but i would be more careful about including Latin American countries. their economies lag behind, they have a population crisis and their political systems are way far from being perfect. there is a lot to be done before there can be some sort of union. |
