I don't know, I think it is going to be a pretty trying few years. On one hand the U.S citizens have just mandated the actions of Bush, they have mandated two wars, one of witch was illegal, the other unjust. They have mandated torture, shady trade deals, corporate interests, and plutocratic governance. I can't say 'I'm talking about the actions of the U.S state' anymore, what I should say is 'I'm talking about the actions of most Americans' because that is exactly what a mandate is.
On the other hand, if Bush's fiscal policies continue I foresee a rather sizeable flow of capital out of America, if this is the case there may be some hope for reform of the currently unaccountable defacto governance institutions, particularly the IMF. |

i'll be living there from next year on. yippie. i hope they throw me in guantanamo for uttering the word "socialism" three times.
no, seriously, after such an extreme regime getting re-elected i have no illusions whatsoever of america being anything but a sorry excuse of democracy. i do feel sorry for the vast american working class getting screwed -- and it makes me outrageous mr bush &co have won an election through making people vote out of FEAR; this simply has no place in a democracy.
s**t, this is the man that let 9/11 happen, this is the man that started a pre-emptive war, this is the man that RAISED the risk of terrorism (in case you've missed, america has never been this hated abroad)... and this is what has granted him another four years of 1984-stylish rule? |

I'm not shocked, nor angry, I know this can't go on forever. I know the very nature of the system which supports our so called leaders, I know it's entirely unsustainable and will soon be changed dramatically. You and I will both be a minority soon my friend, not just me, both of us. I'm not going to shed tears over a country which is 25% evangelist Christian re-electing an evangelist over a more secular party.
Similarly I'm not shocked that John Howard got back in, of course the mortgage seats played a large role, and now it seems *shock horror!* interests are rising anyway.
But these are all issues for another time. Have fun while it lasts, because dinosaurs will die, your ideology exists on very burrowed time, not because of any great revolution, or the threat of terrorism, but because our finite earth can't support infinite acquisition, nor should it.
BTW, I hope Blair does get back in, as I'm sure you are aware he is the leader of their labor party, imagine if the conservative party got in. |

I am aware he is in the labour party but he is dancing my tune so that will be ok if he gets in. You raise some interesting points, what are your solutions, I give you the floor. |

Three words: International Clearing Union. Now, I really have to finish this FTAA essay, but if it's not too late when I'm done (it shouldn't take very long), I'll explain what those words mean. |
